While there the church remodeled the sanctuary, expanded and upgraded preschool facilities, and completed a state of the art digital youth ministry center. The congregation successfully added a contemporary worship service, launched a new missional emphasis and served as a shelter for the evacuees of three hurricanes! Lufkin’s multiple worship model has been adopted by several congregations.

Since September 2009, Mike serves as Senior Minister and Administrator of First Christian Church, Midland. The congregation is now doing ministry beyond its walls, in city parks and partnering with more than 30 community connections.

Mike is a certified educator and has additional distinction as a CCA Fellow with the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA). He has served as board member for the Association of Disciple Musicians, Hospice in the Pines, and Love, Inc. He currently serves on the board of Disciple Village in Odessa.

This committee is responsible for the ordination and standing of clergy for the 434 congregations of this Region. Mike’s passion is to mentor men and women seeking ordination.

Mike is a member of the Emmaus community and has been guest preacher, assistant spiritual director and spiritual director for numerous Emmaus Walks.

Mike recently completed his 16th year of football officiating, at the high school and junior college level and has finally decided it’s time to watch and enjoy from the stands.

Mike is the oldest of four children, two of which are ordained clergy. He grew up on a farm near Morton, Texas, where he played basketball on a state championship team and made two appearances at the State Tournament.

Mike is married to Enid Hunter. Enid is an accomplished double reed soloist and elementary music educator. They have two married daughters, Micah James, recent graduate of Brite Divinity at TCU, and Cameron Seale, an avid athlete and elementary educator in Lufkin, Texas.
